I’ve found myself taking photographs of mostly religious figures lately, in an attempt to find, as my reflective self believes, what others find to be the meaning of life. A great friend of my Father’s drove me past this spot right outside of the small town of Lambeth, Ontario and explained that it was an on site memorial to Mason Berube and Devon Tinus, two twelve year old boys that were tragically killed by a drunk driver in 2009. This site really resonated with me and it became the only photograph I took while in Canada.

Victorian tear catchers. They’re usually used by a widowed bride. Upon the day of the funeral, the widow would collect her tears into this small vial, and all the tears she cried in the first year over the loss of her husband, she would capture in this vial she would wear upon her neck. And on the anniversary of his death, she pours the preserved tears atop his gravesite. It’s beautiful, tragic, and prolongs the suffering for ritualistic purposes. However, it’s quite poetic.
